Middle School Substitute Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Having Sex With a Student in Her Car
A substitute teacher at a New Jersey middle school was arrested for reportedly having sex with a student at least twice in her car and exchanging sexually explicit messages, reported NJ.com
Nataly Lopez, 27, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said.
Lopez, who taught at Nicholas S. LaCorte-Peterstown School No. 3 through Source4Teachers, was arrested in her home on Thursday afternoon.
Superintendent Olga Hugelmeyer said the district barred Lopez from entering any school immediately after they heard about the allegations.
"Law enforcement and social service agencies were notified, as was the substitute's employer," Hugelmeyer said in a statement.
Owen Murphy, spokesman for Source4Teachers, said the company is cooperating fully with law enforcement and indefinitely blocked the substitute from working in their partner school districts until the police investigation is finished. Murphy also said Lopez passed her state and federal background checks when she was hired.
"The alleged perpetrator's background checks, performed by the school district when the substitute began her employment in 2012 and cleared by Source4Teachers when we assumed management of the substitute program, showed no previous history of any illegal or inappropriate actions," he said in a statement.
