Laughter is a key component to a happy union, according to First Lady Michelle Obama. Mrs. Obama dispensed the marital advice after reporters asked her about her marriage to the president last week during a White House luncheon.

“In our house we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage,” she said.

She also described her husband as “very romantic,” mentioning that he doesn’t forget important any important dates at a recent appearance on “Live! With Regis and Kelly”.

But for Valentine’s Day, the couple tends to keep it more low-key.

With her birthday on Jan. 17 and Christmas just weeks before, by Feb. 14 they’re “kind of tired,” she said on the show.

Last year the couple spent the holiday weekend quietly at Camp David.
