Originally from Seat Pleasant, Md., Marcus Skelton is a graduate of Bowie State University where he received both his Bachelors of Science in Communications and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development. While at Bowie, he was an accomplished student-athlete, receiving 1st Team All-CIAA and 2nd Team Daktronics All American honors.
Politically, he served as State Chairman of the District of Columbia Young Republicans from 2007-2009 where he was the first African American to serve on the Young Republicans national board. While chairman, Marcus launched an initiative to get youth involved in local and national politics, public policy and economic empowerment. This year, he served as a political advisor for congressional candidates in Maryland.
Skelton is a contributor for National Public Radio and works as a Grants and Contracts Advisor for a higher education association in Washington, DC. He is a volunteer advocate with the American Heart Association of Maryland, serves on the Board of Directors of Words, Beats & Life Inc, and a Career Partner at Caesar Chavez Public Policy Charter School. He is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. as well as an Eagle Scout. Marcus attends First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Glendaren, Md., and currently lives in Landover, Md.
