Two superstar rappers could make sweet music if they put their differences aside. Or could they?
Hip hop isn't starving for a collaboration. Most rappers flood their albums and mixtapes with guest appearances from other artists, so another one hardly seems necessary. But when two rappers who have a had a seemingly rocky history come together, the result can be legendary.
50 Cent has thrown more than a couple of hints that he'd like to put his and Kanye West's differences aside and get in the studio together. More recently, when asked about his new album, 50 said he wanted to work with "the usual suspects. I want to get with Kanye on this album. See if we can come up with something," 50 told Vibe.com.
Back in 2007, 50 Cent and Kanye faced off in a "sales battle" where the two artists were pitted against each other to see whose album would sell more in its first week. 50 even went as far as saying that he would quit rap if Kanye outsold him. Well, Kanye won, and 50 didn't quit, but the two never really "made up."
Where rap is concerned, 50 Cent and Kanye West are at two opposite ends of the spectrum, so bringing them together would be interesting, to say the least. There is the possibility, however, that the collaboration between 50 and Kanye could be quite underwhelming. Neither artist has ever been the type to compromise on their sound, 50 more so than Kanye.
Would Fif be up for spitting his street lyrics over an '80s pop-inspired Yeezy beat? So what would it sound like? One of Kanye's soulful, yet symphonic beats could bring out the best in 50 Cent. Maybe Kanye would push himself harder to outshine 50. Or they may even throw subliminal lines in the record about each other. Guess hip hop fans will have to wait and see if Kanye responds to 50's olive branch.
What do you think? Do you think Kanye West and 50 Cent should team up for 50's next album?
