The president remarked, “Today, Latinos make up the largest minority group in America’s schools -– more than one in five students overall -– and they face challenges of monumental proportions.”

Mrs. O & the Arts - First Lady Michelle Obama will host the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. At the presentation, Mrs. Obama will speak to the importance of after-school and out-of-school arts and humanities education. The awards will be given to 15 programs that serve underserved youth by developing intellectual development through the arts.

Kamala Harris, hailed as a political force to watch, campaigned for President Obama during the 2008 election season. That evening he’ll be the headline speaker at a DNC fundraising event.

Friday - Friday, President Obama will take his campaigning to the West Coast for the start of the weekend. He’ll be attending events for Senator Barbara Boxer, after which he will travel to Las Vegas for more DNC and DSCC campaigning. He’ll also stop to stump for Senator Harry Reid.
