Obama Compares Republicans to Grumpy Cat
Barack Obama is facing his final year in office, and it seems like he's letting loose a little. The president took a shot at the Republicans while speaking at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum on Friday, comparing the party to moody Internet meme Grumpy Cat.
Taking issue with the Republicans' pessimistic attitude towards the country despite the "enormous progress" made during his presidency, Obama asked, "why is it that Republican politicians are so down on America?"
He answered his own question. "I mean, they are — they are gloomy. They're like Grumpy Cat," he said, while mimicking the popular feline's signature frown.
"I mean, I know it's political season," Obama continued, "but you listen to [the Republicans] and they've constructed this entire separate reality. It's like the Twilight Zone."
Indeed, Obama devoted so much of the 23-minute speech to the Right it almost seemed like he was on the campaign trail again. "You've gotta feel bad for the fact-checkers for the Republicans," Obama said at one point, "'cause they've got to spend hours trying to keep up with some of the crazy stuff that their candidates are claiming."
He did eventually shift the discussion to his vision for America. "We should be talking about opening up new opportunity," said the president, "investing in our schools, rebuilding the infrastructure that creates jobs, investing in the research that alleviates hunger or cures cancer once and for all, like my Vice President Joe Biden said."
Hopefully we'll see more of Obama's impressions as the campaign marches on.
