Cam Newton has enrolled in classes at Auburn University for the spring semester. The Carolina Panthers quarterback is working toward a sociology degree, Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson said. Sampson added that Newton "wants to focus on school and be a normal student."

Newton played for the Auburn Tigers for a season before being drafted as the first overall pick by the Panthers in the 2011 NFL draft. He led the Tigers to the 2010 national championship.

In 2010, he was awarded the Heisman Trophy after landing 2,263 points and 729 first-place votes. A statue stands in his honor outside the Jordan-Hare Stadium.
