50 Cent Says Jay Z Won't Fare Well in Boxing Promotion

Fif says business side of the sport isn’t going to be easy for hip hop mogul to conquer.

50 Cent is well aware of Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports diving into the boxing promotion business, where his own SMS Promotions continues to gain steam.

Just as they’ve done in the rap game, Fif is all for competing with his fellow hip hop mogul in the boxing world. He just has one caveat for Hov — promoting boxers is not like representing any other athlete in any other sport and Jay better protect himself at all times.

“I think they gonna clean Jay up," 50 told BET.com without flinching in New York City on Wednesday night, following the screening of TAPIA, the HBO documentary about late boxer Johnny Tapia. "The sport of boxing is going to clean him up and he’s going to find out it’s not like any other portion of business that he’s been involved in.”

Fif's comments come on the heels of the news of Roc Nation Sports's first boxing card, which is slated for January 9 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. In August, shortly after securing a promoters license, Roc Nation Sports hired David Itskowitch as the chief operating officer of its boxing division. He's the former chief operating officer of Golden Boy Promotions. Despite making those inroads, 50 thinks Hov's prior business practices won't fly in boxing.

“You can’t just buy your way into it by purchasing existing companies and stuff like that," he snarled. "You look at the roster of fighters…you have to have experienced people around to run it. But boxing is like the fur coat business…we don’t know how much they actually sold the jacket for.”

When talking to BET.com this past October, Bernard Hopkins said that 50 and Jay Z's involvement in promoting boxing is good for the sport as long as they uphold the sweet science's highest integrity at all times.

How long will it take for Jay Z and 50 to headline their own respective boxing cards simultaneously at the Garden and Barclays Center? Whose card will be the bigger knockout with fight fans?
