Serena Williams' injuries may be more serious than we think. The tennis star, who had to withdraw from multiple competitions this fall in order to heal, couldn't cross the finish line in her annual charity run in Miami on Saturday.
"I didn't run the whole way this year, but next year I will," she said in a Facebook video she posted after the event. The Serena Williams Live Ultimate Run raises money for the Serena Williams Fund, which focuses on, "helping individuals and communities affected by senseless violence, and promoting equal access to education." The run has three levels –– a quarter marathon, a 5k and an ultimate kids' dash. She did, however, make her way to the finish line to cheer on the participants, including her sister, Venus.
"It's a way to get fit, feel good," she said of the run.
It's been a physically punishing year for Williams, who came within reach of another Grand Slam before losing the U.S. Open to Roberta Vinci in September. She then decided to cancel the rest of her season to mend her body.
Hopefully the all-star will be in better shape next year!
