EXCLUSIVE: Wendy Williams Discusses *That* Beach Shot And How To Clapback With Class

"Yeah, my body’s not the baddest."

Today, The Wendy Williams Show kicked off its ninth season, but BET.com got the chance to catch up with the show’s star last Thursday (Sept. 14) right smack dab in the middle of Times Square, where she recreated the set of her "Ask Wendy" segment. “It’s our ninth season, I wanted to do something big and exciting,” said Wendy Williams of her outdoor setup as New Yorkers and tourists alike watched on.

The daytime host, who is known to say it like she means it, offered her cheeky advice to fans asking her for advice on everything from boyfriend issues to career woes. Being fresh off vacation, where she was trolled for her beach bod, we got our turn and asked Wendy for her best advice on delivering a classy comeback, since here at BET.com we’ve dubbed her the “queen of the classy comeback.”

Check out her response to internet trolls after her bikini pic went viral last week.

“I think all things come with age and responsibility...My early career started in radio and there was a whole a lot of clapping back and that’s just the way it is. But you know what, I was a young and pretty New York City girl at 23 years old, so of course I’m clapping back. And you know, now I’m 54 years old, I’ve been married for 20 years and my career has exceeded my expectations, personally speaking. I enjoy the purple chair and I’m not trying to get canceled because I’m involved in some Negro nonsense clapping back too hard on my daytime talk show which is going into its ninth season.

So that’s what people don’t understand. It’s a combination of now being a daytime darling and being grown. It feels good to be on TV. I’m a grown woman. Why would I be talking to you all crazy? Why would I be playing a twenty-something-year-old's game? You know what I mean?” Wendy explained.

Her thoughts on the whole ordeal?

“I mean, I was on the beach with my husband, we were on a lover’s holiday. And yes I was wearing a bikini. I’m shaped like a capital 'P' [laughs]. Yeah, my body’s not the baddest. But if you don’t want internet trolls, stay off the internet,” she said.

As usual, Wendy was unbothered by the whole situation as she sat in her signature purple chair in the heart of NYC while fans called out for her. She’s still celebrating the success of her show with another iconic New York moment — lighting the Empire State Building.

“So they sent me the colors, I had a color sheet. So I’m at home in my robe watching TV and my parents called. They’re like, ‘What are you doing?’ I say, ‘Picking the colors for my Empire State Building lighting, what are you doing?’ So I picked them — pink and purple. I can’t wait!”

So if you’re in NYC tonight and see The Wendy Williams Show's signature colors illuminating the landmark, know that’s your girl.
