Brothers Anson and Eric Dawkins are the contemporary gospel duo Dawkins & Dawkins. As part of a family gospel trio, including their mother, they started off performing in churches. Before breaking out on their own, they honed their musical chops—Eric plays piano, Anson plays drums and trumpet—as backing for the evangelistic group Commissioned. Their self-titled debut (1992) which infused R&B and rap with gospel, offered the praise set a dose of the hybrid form, Rhythm & Praise. After their 1998 release Focus, the brothers went on hiatus returning more than a decade later with From Now On.
