Freddie Gray is a victim of police brutality from Baltimore, Md. The 25-year-old was taken into custody for possession of a switchblade. While in the backseat of the police vehicle, he began to experience what officers described as a “medical emergency.” After the officers failed to tend to Gray, he fell into a coma and was taken to a trauma center, where it was concluded that he had suffered from a spinal injury. The reasons for the injuries are still unclear, but an officer claimed that Gray was arrested “without force or incident.” However, eyewitnesses claim that he was dragged, “folded” and beaten by police. Gray died on April 19, 2015, after a series of unsuccessful surgeries to save his life. The city of Baltimore erupted in protests calling for an end to police brutality after his death.
