Politician Michele Bachmann was the first Republican woman to be elected to the congress from Minnesota, where she has served the 6th district since 2006. She is a champion of conservative Tea Party values, including a limited role of government. She is a major fundraiser for the G.O.P. and the founder of the House Tea Party Caucus. The Minnesota congresswoman announced her candidacy for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination in June 2011 from Iowa.
