The Weeknd

Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, is a Toronto-based singer who created a stir in 2010 when he released music online without attaching his identity. In March of 2011, he released House of Balloons set as a follow-up to Thursday, which he dropped three months prior. The nine-song mixtape crashed his server and attracted the attention of fellow Canadian artist Drake, who tweeted a link to The Weeknd's music and introduced him to a wider audience. That plug helped him snag a record deal with Universal Republic, where he released his major label debut, Trilogy, in November 2012.
