Serena Williams Teases Return To Tennis With Message On Social Media

Williams' last match was at the US Open in September 2022.

Is Serena Willaims returning to tennis?

The 23-time Grand Slam winner took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared a cryptic tweet that went viral raising the anticipation for a possible comeback to the court for the 42-year-old phenom.

“I’m ready to hit some balls again,” Williams wrote in a tweet that has almost 1 million views and counting.

Williams started her career in 1995, she went on to win many major tournaments, and, along with her sister Venus Williams, she changed the face of women’s tennis. Her last match was at the US Open in September 2022–losing in three sets to Ajla Tomljanović.

Ever since her “retirement,” Williams has been dropping hints that she may come back to the world of tennis to reclaim her crown.

"The chances (of me returning) are very high," Williams said during the TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco just a month after the 2022 U.S. Open.

"But at the same time, I'm so happy. I really want my daughter and my family to be ahead of me. It's interesting how women think, and I like that we think that way and I think that's what makes us so special.”

We hopefully await Williams’ official return to tennis where she is one victory away from tying the record for the most Grand Slams by a single player. In the meantime, the tennis champion is slated to host the ESPY Awards in July.

"This is a dream come true for me, and something I've wanted to do for as long as I can remember," Williams said in a recent statement.  "It has been a sensational year for sports and an unprecedented one for female athletes. I can't wait to celebrate everyone on stage in July."
