Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis Fight Moved to Miami
The highly anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta "Tank" Davis will now take place in the “Sunshine State.”
According to ESPN, the exhibition match will now take place in Miami, Florida, at the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat, on Friday, November 14
Originally slated for the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Most Valuable Promotions, the promoter of the bout, “withdrew their request to stage the fight in Georgia on Tuesday.”
“New city, same mission, seek and destroy the tank," said Paul in a statement. "Kaseya Center. Friday, November 14. I'm bringing the heat, and Miami will see me take down this angry elf while the world watches live on Netflix."
"Jake Paul has been cherry picking in the sport of boxing for a while now, but he picked the wrong opponent this time," Davis added. "He better start losing some weight, chasing some chickens, and pray that helps him some on fight night! Thank you to Netflix for giving me the opportunity to whoop this clown!"
Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic Entertainment Commission (GAEC), told USA TODAY Sports that he was against the fight because of the weight difference between Paul and Davis. In his last fight, Paul weighed in at 199½ pounds, and Davis weighed in at 133¾ pounds for his previous fight.
“This is the dumbest (expletive) I’ve ever heard,’’ said Thompson. “It’s a money grabber, and I’m not OK with that.’’
“But I'm going to make my biggest case that this is not good,’’ said Thompson, who is also vice chairman of the Georgia State Ethics Commission.
Thompson also said that the fight was being advertised before it was approved by the appropriate bodies.
“It is absolutely without a doubt arrogance,’’ he said.
