Gervonta Davis To Fight Jake Paul, And Real Boxers Can’t Stop Laughing
Jake Paul is still doing that thing that Jake Paul does, where he spends his own money to craft and promote fake fights in which either legitimate fighters go half speed, or guys who can’t box go full speed, only for all of it to be considered an exhibition bout that doesn’t amount to much.
On Wednesday, Ring Magazine broke the news on X, posting, “BREAKING: Jake Paul will face Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on November 15th at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, in an exhibition live on Netflix, sources confirm to Mike Coppinger. Talks for Paul to face Anthony Joshua collapsed over network issues. Paul’s last fight took place at 200 pounds while Davis is a champion at 135."
And the fight is already controversial as Paul took to Instagram to post “an important change to the initial announcement. Rather than the fight occurring on November 15, it's instead taking place on November 14,” Sports Illustrated reports.
In case you believe you’ve read it wrong, 135-pound Gervonta "Tank" Davis, who is blatantly ducking a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr., who was last seen fighting Davis to a majority draw, will fight 200-pound Paul because Davis is going to get paid a fortune for what amounts to not much more than a light sparring session.
Sports Illustrated notes that Davis will earn more money in his “exhibition” fight with Paul than he would’ve in fighting Roach for a second time.
While the particulars are still being figured out, SI notes that obvious skill differences will make up for the disparity in weight.
Several top boxers, including Roach, took to social media to clown Davis, who was supposed to fight Roach on August 16 but never signed the contract, for taking a fight with a YouTuber turned podcaster.
"Told ya lol 🦆🦆🦆🦆," Roach wrote in an X post, along with four duck emojis.
Ryan Garcia wrote that he doesn’t think the fight’s going to happen.
"I strongly doubt this happens, no way Gervonta accepted 195 pounds. Gervonta is already small naturally and you really think he will decide to balloon up to 195 pounds. You got to be delusional to think this is going to happen.”
