Travis Hunter Fires Back At Claim He Is Moving To Full-Time Cornerback

The former Heisman winner isn't staying silent after a major NFL insider suggested the Jacksonville Jaguars are ready to limit his snaps on the offensive side of the ball.

Jacksonville Jaguars star Travis Hunter is making it clear that rumors regarding a permanent position change are premature. The former Heisman Trophy winner recently took to social media to directly dispute a report from NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport, who suggested the Jaguars intend to utilize Hunter primarily as a cornerback in the upcoming 2026 season.

During an appearance on The Insiders, Rapoport reported that the Jaguars plan to use Hunter as a full-time cornerback and a part-time wide receiver as he continues his recovery from an LCL tear. While Rapoport noted that Hunter is "doing exceptionally well" in his rehabilitation and is expected to be a full participant by training camp, he indicated that Jacksonville would lean toward a more specialized defensive role for the young star.

Hunter quickly responded to the claims on X, formerly known as Twitter, quoting a post of the report with a direct question: “Now who told you this?” followed by a thinking emoji. The response from Hunter suggests that the insider's report at minimum doesn't align with Hunter's  plans for this season. The report also contradicts what the Jaguars general manager James Gladstone said about Hunter's usage right after the season in a press conference.

"We still expect him to play on both sides of the ball," Gladstone said. "... "The steps that he was taking by the midpoint of the season really made us feel good about what the back half of the year was going to be on both sides of the ball and what that impact was going to look like being a feature point on offense and an impact player on defense."

Hunter has remained adamant about his desire to play both sides of the ball at the professional level. He has been regarded as a rare blue-chip talent capable of maintaining high-level production as both a pass-catcher and a lockdown defender.

The conversation around Hunter’s role continues to center on long-term durability and the physical toll of a high snap count. While playing both ways complicates recovery between games and potentially increases injury risks, Hunter’s recent clap back indicates he still views himself as a two-way threat as he prepares for his second NFL campaign.
