BET Awards 2022: Meet the Chilling Ensemble Cast from ‘Candyman’
When up-and-coming visual artist Anthony McCoy finds himself searching for artistic inspiration, he may have gotten more than he bargained for when he’s introduced to the legend of Candyman by an old resident of the Cabrini-Green housing complex. This prequel to the chilling 1992 film of the same name spooked fans. It earned itself a nomination for “Best Movie” at the BET Awards 2022, along with several other big films, including King Richard, Respect, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Harder They Fall, and Questlove’s Summer of Soul. Ahead of next week’s event set to take place on June 26, hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson, meet the chilling ensemble cast from Candyman.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Award-winning actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is a burgeoning visual artist Anthony McCoy. On the hunt to find inspiration for his next big piece, he encounters William “Billy” Burke, who tells him the legend of Candyman. Anthony soon becomes obsessed as the legacy of Candyman carries on.
Colman Domingo
Tony Award-winning actor Colman Domingo plays William "Billy" Burke, a Cabrini-Green resident who introduces Anthony to the Candyman's legend. The actor currently stars in HBO hit television series Euphoria.
Teyonah Parris
Rising actress Teyonah Parris stars as Brianna "Bri" Cartwright, Anthony's girlfriend and an art gallery director.
Nathan Stewart-Jarrett
Nathan Stewart-Jarrett plays Troy Cartwright, Brianna's brother. During an evening gathering, Troy tells Bri, Anthony, and his boyfriend Grady Greenberg about the story of the Cabrini-Green housing complex, Candyman, and the legend that if you say the name five times while looking in a mirror, he’ll appear.
Vanessa Williams as Anne-Marie McCory
Veteran actress Vanessa Williams reprises her role as Anne-Marie McCory, and Anthony’s estranged mother, in the horror remake. As scary as the film may be for some, Williams' scene made for a very funny meme moment.
