Brian Grazer is the new Black. The Oscar-winning producer, who is behind such films as A Beautiful Mind, Contact and 8 Mile, seemed very proud of his self-proclaimed credibility while chatting with TMZ on Tuesday.
Talking about the upcoming James Brown biopic Get on Up, which he developed and produced, Grazer made reference to artists such as Prince and Wu-Tang Clan. When the cameraman seemed surprised by Grazer's knowledge of urban music, the producer joked, "Of course I'm hip! I produced 8 Mile, I've been to a Jay Z concert...I'm Black!"
The Hollywood heavyweight also talked passionately about the upcoming biopic, starring Chadwick Boseman as Brown. "I've worked on this project for 12 years," he said. "I like stories of self reliance. Ultimately his story is about the American Dream. Here's somebody who was abandoned, beaten, unfortunately had to live in a whore house...he went through everything and then triumphed beyond that because he was talented and wilfull."
Get on Up hits theaters later this year.
