Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel unveiled a plan to fix the Academy's diversity problem right now. But, as Black Twitter is pointing out, the offensive sketch only further proves the point that the root of Hollywood's diversity problem lies with white people who don't understand when things are racist.
After recapping that stars like Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee have been "complaining" about the lack of diversity in Hollywood, the talk show host invited "Stewart Bloom" from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (disclaimer: this is not a real AMPAS rep, but an actor playing one) to help explain his plan. Together, they showed movie posters from this year's Best Picture nominees, but with a bit of extra "flava" added.
Room became Crib, starring Queen Latifah and Kevin Hart. Steve Jobs became Steve Harvey, starring guess who. The Martian? Martin, toplined by Martin Lawrence with the tagline "Bring Homie Home." The Big Short becomes The Big Shawty, starring Bow Wow. Finally, The Revenant became The Revenant Al Sharpton.
Twitter is not here for the joke:
