Snoop Lion's Documentary Gets a Release Date

Reincarnated will hit select cities on March 15.

It's the story of how a Dogg became a Lion.

Snoop Dogg's long-touted film Reincarnated — which documents his metamorphosis from rapper to Rastafarian reggae singer during a trip to Jamaica — will open in select cities on March 15.

After making its world premiere last September at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film will play in limited theaters in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami. VICE Films and Snoopadelic Films are releasing the film, which was directed by Andy Capper.

Reincarnated explores Snoop Dogg's trip to Trench Town, a neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica, famous for being the birthplace of reggae and the former haunt of legends, including Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. While in Jamaica, Snoop met with Rastafarian priests and recorded reggae and dancehall songs with producers including Diplo.

The film will be accompanied by a reggae album of the same name, which has already produced singles "La La La," "Here Comes the King" and "Lighters Up."

The authenticity of Snoop’s transformation came into question last week when reggae great Bunny Wailer blasted the hip hop star for exploiting the Rastafarian culture in his film.

Snoop has not directly addressed Bunny’s comments, but he has received the blessing of Rohan Marley, son of Bob Marley, and many more in the reggae industry.
