Lupe Fiasco Announces New Album
For an artist that speaks his mind as often as Lupe Fiasco, going on an extended period of time without being in the news is pretty improbable. The Chicago MC has been relatively quiet though since suspending his Twitter activity indefinitely last month.
Having scrapped the sequel to his Grammy-nominated album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Story, Pt. 1, Lupe announced the title of his next LP while talking with FUSE last night on the Grammy Awards red carpet. The project, which the controversial rapper summed up as "a different angle and twist," will be titled Tetsuo & Youth.
The title may be inspired by the Japanese cult film Tetsuo: The Iron Man, a wild cyberpunk classic about a man who metamorphoses into metal.
News of the rapper’s fifth studio LP was initially announced via his Twitter earlier in the day but the tweet was deleted just moments later. Though scarce on details, the tweet did state that the album would be released in 2013.
Food & Liquor II lost to Drake’s Take Care in the "Best Rap Album" category last night. As to the fate of music intended for FLII’s now-canceled sequel, Lupe explains, "A lot of the music we did for it, we're just kind of putting in the safe."
In the meantime, fans will just have to wait patiently until Lupe sneaks up on them in his ninja shoes with more details.
