Mister Cee Addresses Gay Rumors, Prostitution Charge
Hot 97 DJ Mister Cee went on air at his home station this morning to refute rumors that he is gay and to insist that his most recent arrest for soliciting prostitution was part of a sting operation.
"I am not gay," he said, before offering his account of the story. "Thursday night/Friday morning I was approached by a female undercover cop — a female, latino, undercover cop — not a male cop." he said. "The female undercover cop, I have her badge number, so I know who it is."
He said he was driving in Brooklyn and pulled over to make a phone call when the officer approached him, "regularly clothed." He said he was offered oral sex and declined. He even started to drive away, he said, when "all h--l broke loose."
He's not sure how the story became an accusation of him soliciting a male prostitute. "I can't answer why it changed from that," Cee, aka the Finisher said.
Cee previously plead guilty to loitering for the purpose of engaging in prostitution. The prostitute in that case was identified as Lawrence Campbell, a 20-year-old male. Rumors about Cee's sexuality circulated then as well.
"In 2011, I pleaded guilty to the prostitution case because it was too much money to keep going back and forth, and also because I have a family — both my family and my Hot 97 family — and I didn't want to put y'all through the mud. Not because I like men, but because of all the court procedures I didn't want to go through."
"Out of the three incidents that happened in the past with me, there was only one person's name brought up that was a male." Cee was also arrested in 2010.
He went on to make clear that, although he's not gay, he supports the gay community.
"I love the gay community. I always embrace those people who don't have that much power to be loud. Back when the Haiti thing happened, I was doing so much for the Haitians. I embrace the gay community more than you know."
He said the real issue is not being closeted, but "an addiction to instant gratification" rooted in heartache from a past relationship.
"It's because of what I've been going through the last 10-12 years of my life. Back in 2001, I was in a serious committed relationship (a girlfriend) with a young lady and I'm not going to say her name. About that time, my life started to change into wanting 'hit it and quit it'-type relationships. I was going into strip clubs and things. Then I wanted to get prostitutes. I got in a rut. The more I started getting into that activity, the more I wanted it versus the traditional way of getting to know regular women."
"For me to have gotten caught 3 times — in relation to all the times I frequent prostitutes — it's really not surprising."
He then said he's in "therapy" to treat his addiction and criminal behavior and is planning to take time off from his noon-time show to keep the heat off of Hot 97. "I'ma suspend myself, I'ma take myself off the radio," he said. "I'ma take some time off and I'ma suspend myself."
