James Cook Signs Four-Year, $48 Million Extension With Buffalo Bills
James Cook got what he wanted.
According to CBS Sports, Cook signed a four-year deal worth $48 million with the Buffalo Bills. The new deal also includes $30 million guaranteed.
Cook, who was staging a “hold-in” to get the front office to sign him to a long-term deal, is now the clear No. 1 option at running back for the Bills' backfield that also features Ray Davis and Ty Johnson.
Zac Hiller, Cook's agent, said that his client “could only envision himself as a Buffalo Bill.”
"We are extremely thankful to the entire Bills organization and glad we could make that happen, " Hiller said.
After his nine-day hold, where he was present but not practicing, Cook was a full participant in practices on Tuesday (August 12), and head coach Sean McDermott told reporters that "things have changed" between his star running back and the Bills’ management.
“I would say that things have changed. And yes, we have had conversations with James. Good conversations that I've mentioned before," McDermott said. "The information that we're getting is that he is moving towards practicing."
Following his career at the University of Georgia, Cook was drafted by the Bills in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Last season, he rushed for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two scores.
