Ravens Thank Shedeur Sanders and Browns for Keeping AFC North Title Hopes Alive
The Cleveland Browns postponed the Pittsburgh Steelers’ AFC North championship celebrations Sunday, defeating their division rivals and keeping the Baltimore Ravens’ hopes for a division title alive heading into the final week of the regular season.
The Browns' victory, led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive end Myles Garrett, prevented the Steelers from clinching the division. The outcome ensures that the AFC North title will be decided in a head-to-head matchup between the Ravens and the Steelers in Week 18.
Following the game, Garrett suggested that the Steelers’ late-game strategy appeared focused on individual milestones. Garrett told reporters he believed Pittsburgh was more concerned with stopping him from breaking T.J. Watt’s single-season sacks record than securing the win.
"They were more worried about keeping me away from Aaron (Rodgers) than getting the win. That’s what came back to bite them," Garrett said during his post-game press conference.
While the Steelers' coaching staff and local media contested the notion that individual records took precedence over team goals, the loss had immediate implications for the rest of the division.
In Baltimore, the Ravens’ official X account acknowledged the assist from their division rivals. The team posted a photo of a Ravens player doing the Shedeur Sanders’ celebration, tagging the Browns’ account with a message of gratitude. The win by Cleveland was necessary for Baltimore to remain in contention for the top spot in the AFC North.
Sanders, who has been a focal point of the Browns' offense, provided the late-game execution needed to seal the upset. His performance, coupled with a Cleveland defense that limited Pittsburgh’s scoring opportunities, forced the Steelers to wait at least one more week to claim the division crown.
The NFL confirmed that the upcoming Week 18 game between the Ravens and Steelers is a high-stakes affair, as the winner will officially be crowned the AFC North champion. If the Steelers had won Sunday, the Week 18 game would have had no impact on the division standings.
