Knicks Championship Parade Ends With Alicia Keys Live At City Hall
The New York Knicks are champions, and the city is throwing a huge party on Thursday to celebrate. To make things even better, one of New York's own musical powerhouses is taking the stage to wrap up the festivities.
Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and pianist Alicia Keys is locked in to perform at City Hall right after the victory parade finishes up. Madison Square Garden and Knicks owner James Dolan confirmed the news, noting that Keys will be singing "Empire State of Mind," her 2009 hit with Jay-Z that has become the city's unofficial anthem.
The parade gets going at 10 a.m. Eastern time down near Battery Park and Bowling Green. The team will ride up Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes, heading straight for City Hall where the main ceremony starts at noon. That is where we will see the speeches, the team getting the keys to the city, and the musical performances. There is no word yet on whether Jay-Z will show up to perform his verses with Keys, so we will have to wait and see if he makes a surprise appearance.
Keys, a 45-year-old Manhattan native, has already been celebrating the franchise’s first championship since 1973. She hosted a star-studded after-party at Capitale earlier this week, rocking a Knicks jacket and singing the anthem for a crowd that included Natasha Lyonne, Angela Simmons, Lena Waithe and Jane Rosenthal.
Keys also posted videos on Instagram showing thousands of fans celebrating on the sidewalks, showing love to her hometown and shouting out the Knicks for bringing a trophy back to the city.
