Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Put On a Dominant Show In the 400m
Is there anything that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone can’t do? After becoming the preeminent performer in 400m hurdles, the Olympic gold medalist has now conquered the 400m, winning the gold at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. She became the first woman in almost 40 years to run the 400 meters in under 48 seconds, running 47.78 on her way to winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo. Her time was just shy of German Marita Koch's world record time of 47.60, which was set in 1985.
“My coach Bobby Kersee uses boxing terms all the time,” McLaughlin-Levrone said after the race.. “He said, ‘You got to go out there and take the belt. It’s not yours, and you got to go earn it.”
Canelo-Crawford Drew Over 41 million Viewers On Netflix
More than 41 million viewers tuned in to watch the super middleweight championship bout between Canelo “Saul” Álvarez and Terence Crawford on Netflix. At the record-setting bout, which saw Crawford put on a master boxing display, defeating Álvarez by unanimous decision at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. For the fight, Crawford moved up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez. Crawford also became the first male boxer in the four-belt era to achieve undisputed status in three different weight divisions, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
Justin Fields To Miss Sunday’s Game Due to a Concussion
The season has gotten off to a rough start for New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields. He has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after suffering a concussion in the team's Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Injured in the fourth quarter, his helmet hit the turf after being sacked. After entering the league's concussion protocol, Fields has not been given clearance to play. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor will start in his place. The timeline for his return is uncertain, as it depends on his progress through the NFL's concussion protocol.
A'ja Wilson and Alanna Smith Named Co-Defensive Players of the Year
For the first time in the history of the WNBA, the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year award was awarded to two players: A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces and
Alanna Smith of the Minnesota Lynx. Each player received 29 votes from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. For Smith, it’s the first DPOY honor of her career, and Wilson takes home her third trophy. With Nahpheesa Collier’s win last year, the Lynx are the first team ever to have back-to-back DPOY winners from the same team.
Minnesota Lynx Advance to the Semifinals
The Minnesota Lynx have advanced to the WNBA semifinals after a two-game sweep of the Golden State Valkyries in the first round. Entering the playoffs as the No. 1 seed, the Lynx won a thrilling comeback victory in Game 2. After trailing by as many as 17 points, the Lynx rallied to defeat the Valkyries 75-74. MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier scored 24 points and made the go-ahead shot with just over a minute left. The Valkyries made history by becoming the first expansion team to make the playoffs, achieving a record 23 wins for a first-year franchise, and selling out every home game.
