Still Making History: Russell Westbrook Hits Two Major Milestones in Kings' Win Over Mavs
Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook reached two major statistical milestones Saturday afternoon, surpassing a Hall of Fame legend on the NBA’s all-time assists list and joining an elite group of defensive playmakers.
Just three minutes into the first quarter of the Kings’ matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, Westbrook recorded his second assist of the game at the 9:15 mark. The play moved his career total to 10,142 assists, officially passing Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson for seventh-most in NBA history. Westbrook finished the game with nine assists, bringing his career total to 10,149.
Later in the contest, Westbrook reached another historic mark on the defensive end. In the third quarter, he recorded a steal to become the 14th player in league history to reach 2,000 career steals.
With these achievements, Westbrook joins LeBron James as one of only two players in NBA history to rank in the top 20 for steals, the top 10 for points, and the top 10 for assists. Additionally, Westbrook is now one of only seven point guards ever to reach the 2,000-steal threshold.
The 17-year veteran, who signed with Sacramento as a free agent during the 2025 offseason, contributed 21 points and five rebounds in the Kings' 113-107 victory over Dallas. Westbrook entered the game averaging 14.4 points, 7.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game for the season.
The win marked a significant moment for the Kings as Westbrook continues to climb the league's all-time leaderboards. He now trails only Mark Jackson, Steve Nash, LeBron James, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, and John Stockton on the career assists list.
