The NFL’s Biggest Storylines From Week 6

As the season continues, here are some of the storylines that have defined week 6 in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs Return To Form

The Kansas City Chiefs delivered a convincing win against the Detroit Lions 30-17, snapping their four-game winning streak and going to 4-2 on the season. Patrick Mahomes was incredible, throwing for three touchdowns and becoming the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 300 total career passing touchdowns (including playoffs), passing Aaron Rodgers. The win re-establishes the Chiefs as a major AFC contender. Following the game, safety Brian Branch smacked Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in the face, sparking a brief scuffle between the teams. Penalties have yet to be levied for the brawl.

Next up for the Chiefs is the Las Vegas Raiders on October 19

The Philadelphia Eagles Have Hit a Wall

Although they began the season 4-0, the Philadelphia Eagles are on a two-game losing streak after their Week 6 loss to the divisional rival New York Giants. This is the Eagles' first two-game skid since the 2023 season, and issues have been identified in the offense, with A.J. Brown previously complained about his lack of presence in the schemes. In the post-game interview, quarterback Jalen Hurts took accountability for his play.

“I’ve got to be better,” Hurts said. “I take ownership of it. A lot of autonomy and a lot of opportunity there with the ball in my hands, and given those situations, I have to be wiser and more detailed with it.”

The Eagles take on the Minnesota Vikings on October 19 at 1 PM EST.

Baker Mayfield Has the Buccaneers On a Roll

When it comes to early MVP consideration, Baker Mayfield must be in the discussion. He has led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an NFC-best 5-1 record through week six of the 2025 season.

Against the San Francisco 49ers, he posted a 139.0 passer rating, completing 17 of 23 passes (73.9%) for 256 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. To cap off another great  performance, Mayfield pulled off an improbable 15-yard scramble for a first down on a third-and-14, dodging multiple 49ers.  Without top wideout Emeka Egbuka for much of the game after he was ruled out due to a hamstring injury and Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were out before the game even began, the Bucs are looking like one of the top teams in the league.

Rico Dowdle Put On a Show

Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle had the game of his life. Dowdle rushed for 183 yards on 30 carries and added four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown in their win over the Cowboys in what was one of the biggest upsets of the week. In just two weeks, Dowdle has accumulated a total of nearly 400 yards. At this pace, Dowdle is well on his way to becoming the league’s leading rusher.

The Colts Are The NFL’s Best Kept Secret

The Indianapolis Colts (5-1) continue to be one of the league's biggest surprises,  after a 31-27 win against the Arizona Cardinals, they now have a record of 5-1. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, another early MVP candidate, had a great performance rushing for 123 yards and scoring the decisive 1-yard touchdown with 4:32 remaining completing the comeback. As the top seed of the AFC, the Colts are putting the league on notice that they are one of the elite teams in the NFL.
