Cam Newton’s ‘Nclecta’ Moment Goes Viral and Lady London’s Cool Response Wins Internet
There’s a new word in town and it’s “nclecta.”
In a recent episode of Cam Newton’s show “Funky Friday” podcast featuring rapper Lady London, Newton did what he does best: he marched to his own drum. The NFL legend produced a viral moment after London asked him to describe his style in one word. “That’s an adjective,” London said.
Newton used the word “inclectic.” And confusion followed.
London attempted to clarify his response and asked him to repeat the word again. She shared that the word he was looking for was “eclectic” and detailed that there was no “N” in it. Newton refused to let London be right and said, “No, no, no, no—it’s my word.”
“Ooooh, let’s unpack that,” London said, clapping.
Then…Newton spelled it. “N-c-l-e-c-t-a. Inclectic. Do you want to know what the ‘n’ stands for?” He asked an intrigued London.
London’s flatly replied, “N*ggatry?”
“You see where I was going,” Newton replied with confidence.
“Love that for you,” London said.
London then suggested he hit up Webster, and Newton said “no” as Webster doesn’t “relate to us.” London then shrugged and mentioned that words are how she makes a living and that they do indeed matter to her.
Newton said, “That’s cool, but you just use people that don’t have thanksgiving morals that I have.”
London conceded and told Newton she was picking up what he was putting down. The proud host said, “Please! Because I am crushing it right now! Webster and Oxford, they don’t eat what I eat at Thanksgiving.”
Finally, he decided to move on. Lady London’s appearance included substantive discussion about her music, identity, and navigation of the industry, all of which were overshadowed by Newton’s wordplay. London, a Howard University alum who deferred medical school to pursue music, navigated the moment with poise and wit.
The viral snippet circulated across YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and Threads, prompting commentary about the interview’s dynamics. One X post framed the exchange as “intelligence vs someone who thinks they’re intelligent,” and users praised Lady London for staying composed while some critics used the clip to knock Newton’s “pseudo-intellectualism.” Many social users called the “Nclecta” moment their first meme of the year.
