Warriors Eyeing Unbelievable Superteam With LeBron James And Anthony Davis

League sources indicate the front office wants to pull off a multi-star acquisition before free agency begins Tuesday.

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly looking into an offseason plan that sounds like something straight out of a video game.

With free agency opening up on Tuesday, Yahoo Sports reporter Kevin O'Connor dropped a report that Golden State wants to pull off a double-swoop for both Anthony Davis and LeBron James. According to league sources, the plan is to trade for Davis first, and then use him to recruit LeBron to the Bay Area.

The pitch to LeBron is pretty straightforward: team up with AD again, share the floor with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, and make one final run at a championship under Steve Kerr. We already saw how well that group clicked when they won gold together at the Paris Olympics, and we know LeBron and AD have a championship pedigree from their 2020 bubble run with the Lakers.

But getting this done requires some serious financial gymnastics. To match Davis’s $58.5 million salary for next season, Golden State would have to build a trade package around Jimmy Butler, who is currently rehabbing a torn ACL on an expiring $57 million deal. The Warriors would also have to throw in some serious draft assets, including two future first-round picks and four pick swaps.

As fun as it is to think about, league insiders are highly skeptical that this actually happens. For starters, the Warriors are already an older team. Adding a 34-year-old Davis and a 41-year-old LeBron doesn't exactly solve their age problem, especially with Davis eligible for a massive $275 million extension this August.

On top of that, Washington doesn't seem eager to move Davis. Wizards general manager Will Dawkins recently said AD wants to stay in D.C. to help mentor No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.

LeBron hasn't signed a new deal with Los Angeles yet, so technically the door is open. It’s a long shot, but you can't blame the Warriors for trying to maximize the rest of Steph Curry's prime.
