Robert Griffin III Accuses Cleveland Browns of Sabotaging Shedeur Sanders' Career

RGIII weighs in on the rookie's situation as he prepares for his first NFL start against the Carolina Panthers.

Robert Griffin III is not a fan of the way the Cleveland Browns are handling Shedeur Sanders.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Griffin shared that he believes Sanders is “being set up to fail” by the Browns.

“Shedeur Sanders is being set up to fail in Cleveland,” Griffin wrote. “But God’s got him showing out even with limited reps.”

“Shedeur Sanders is starting the Cleveland Browns' preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers’ starters after getting limited opportunities with the starters in training camp and officially being 4th on the QB depth chart,” he said in another tweet. “MASSIVE opportunity for Shedeur and MUST WATCH TV.”

RG III’s comments come on the heels of Sanders being announced as the starting quarterback against the Carolina Panthers on Friday, August 8, for the team's preseason opener.

Although veteran Joe Flacco is slated to be the team’s starting quarterback, injuries to Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel has allowed Sanders to move up the depth chart for the time being.

According to ESPN Cleveland, Sanders has completed 49 of his 70 passing attempts for six touchdowns and zero interceptions through the first nine practices at camp.

Flacco has completed 54 of 92 passes for three touchdowns, while Gabriel has connected on 62 of his 113 attempts for three scores and two interceptions. Pickett has missed several practices and has seen limited practice play.

Before being named the pre-season starter, the fifth-round pick told reporters last week that he doesn't want his father, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, to come to training camp until he feels he’s ready.

“I don't want him coming to see me right now because I want to get to where I want to go, then for him to see me," Sanders said. "I don't want him to come and see me get a couple reps, and he is cheering like a good dad. Like, nah, you can't be proud of me right now. I got to get to where I'm going, and I know it's a lot I got to do to get there.”

“It's kind of like I just want everything that I'm doing is just focus on this time, and I don't want no distractions because we know how the media, we know how everybody would take it and take away from the team, just from him being my own dad showing up,” Sanders continued. “So, it is a gift and a curse at the same time.”
