Black Love: Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordyn Woods Announce Christmas Engagement
New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns and entrepreneur Jordyn Woods announced their engagement Thursday, marking a milestone in a relationship that has spanned five years and a high-profile move to the Big Apple.
The announcement came via a joint Instagram post on Dec. 25, with a caption from Woods that read: “Marry Christmas 🎄❤️💍.”
The proposal took place at Overstory, a rooftop bar in Manhattan known for its panoramic skyline views. Following the Knicks' 126-124 Christmas Day victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden, Towns, 30, proposed to Woods, 28, against the backdrop of the city lights.
Photos shared by the couple show Towns dressed in a brown suede jacket and dark trousers, kneeling to present an emerald-cut diamond ring to Woods, who wore a white satin dress and matching fur coat. The celebration was attended by family, including Woods’ mother and sister, who were present to witness the milestone.
The engagement follows a relationship that began in May 2020 after years of friendship. The couple has been open about their bond, which was strengthened during the COVID-19 pandemic and through personal hardships, including the passing of Towns’ mother, Jacqueline, in 2020 and Woods' father years prior.
"Me and Jordyn met years ago, knowing common people and just became friends," Towns previously shared on Woods’ series Regular-ish. "It just so happened that COVID came... it kind of forced us to either pick where our relationship was going to go as friends or something more. We chose the latter."
Woods has echoed those sentiments, noting that the foundation of their partnership is rooted in mutual support. "I think it’s kind of cool dating your best friend," Woods said. "We know each other’s hearts. We’ve been through a lot of bad days together."
The engagement caps a year of transition for Towns, who was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Knicks in October. Since arriving in New York, the couple has frequently been seen together at city events and games, with Woods becoming a regular presence at Madison Square Garden.
While the couple has not yet announced a wedding date, the Christmas engagement solidifies one of the NBA’s most enduring partnerships as they begin their next chapter in New York.
