New York Giants Legend Lawrence Taylor Hospitalized
Lawrence Taylor, the Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker who spent his entire career with the New York Giants, was hospitalized Friday following a medical emergency in New Jersey. TMZ was the first to break the news, reporting that the 67-year-old was taken to an emergency room before being moved to another area of the facility for continued care.
While specific details regarding the nature of the emergency have not been disclosed, sources close to Taylor told TMZ that they do not believe the situation is life-threatening. The report indicated that those in his inner circle expect him to be released from the hospital in the near future as doctors continue their evaluation.
During his 13 seasons in the NFL, all with New York, Taylor established a reputation as one of the most formidable defensive players in the game's history. He remains one of only two defensive players to ever win the NFL MVP award, securing the honor in 1986. That same year, he led the league in sacks and helped guide the Giants to a Super Bowl title.
Over the course of his career, Taylor was a 10-time Pro Bowl selection and an eight-time first-team All-Pro. He was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times, including in 1981, when he became the only player to win the award during his rookie season. He finished his career as a two-time Super Bowl champion and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Giants organization has not yet released an official statement regarding Taylor’s health. He remains the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks and saw his No. 56 jersey retired by the team in 1994.
