Former HBCU Star Sets New Gymnastics Record
Morgan Price has once again etched her name into the record books, this time delivering a landmark performance for the Arkansas Razorbacks. During a Friday night SEC clash against Kentucky, the former HBCU standout achieved a perfect 10.0 on the vault, marking the first time in the program's 24-season history that a gymnast has recorded a perfect score on that apparatus. The milestone comes 8,442 days after the program’s inception, with Price reaching perfection in less than one full season since transferring to the university.
Performing a Yurchenko 1.5, Price stuck the landing to earn the second perfect score of her collegiate career. Her first 10.0 came during the 2025 season while she was competing for Fisk University, where she made history by recording the first-ever perfect score for an HBCU gymnastics program. The senior’s performance on Friday helped the No. 7 Gymbacks to a 197.125-197.125 tie against No. 24 Kentucky.
In addition to the historic vault title, Price secured the all-around crown for the meet with a total score of 39.575. Her contributions were part of a dominant night for Arkansas, which saw teammates Joscelyn Roberson take the beam title and both Roberson and Lauren Williams share the floor exercise title with scores of 9.950. Following the Week 8 results, Arkansas is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation.
Price has long been a pioneer in the sport. During her tenure at Fisk, she became the first HBCU gymnast to finish in the top 10 at the USAG Women’s Collegiate National Championships. Her transition to the SEC has seen her maintain that elite trajectory; she currently ranks 27th nationally in the all-around standings. She trails only a few top competitors, including Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles of UCLA, who continues to lead the national field. As the postseason approaches, Price's historic vault serves as a significant marker in her transition from an HBCU legend to a powerhouse in one of the most competitive conferences in the country.
