Top Storylines of NFL Week 8

As teams jockey for position and players put up incredible performances, here are some of the storylines that have shaped Week 8.

The Colts Could Be the Best Team in the NFL

Very few people before the season had the Indianapolis Colts as the best team in the NFL. But since the season has begun, they have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with after a dominant victory against the Tennessee Titans, winning 38-14.  They’ve improved to an NFL-best record of 7-1 this season. MVP frontrunner Jonathan Taylor rushed for 153 yards and scored three total touchdowns, including an 80-yard touchdown in the third period. Quarterback Daniel Jones threw another TD to wide receiver Josh Downs, and Taylor caught another one. With the win, the Colts sweep of their AFC South rival in the season series and have scored at least 30 points for the sixth time this season.

Jalen Hurts Continues To Prove His Naysayers Wrong With Stellar Performance

No matter how loud the critics are, Jalen Hurts has a knack for silencing them with his play on the field, leading the Philadelphia Eagles' 38-20 victory over the New York Giants. Although he was playing without A.J. Brown, Hurts completed 15 of 20 passes for 179 yards and a season-high four touchdowns, earning a stellar passer rating of 141.5. Saquon Barkley had his best game of the year, rushing for 150 yards and a touchdown. While showing all of his detractors that he can also be a prolific passer, Hurts’ most important stat is getting another “W" for the Eagles.

Jordan Love Outduels Aaron Rodgers

When Jordan Love was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2020, the franchise envisioned him to be the heir apparent to Aaron Rodgers. After Sunday’s victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Love has proven that he’s more than capable of leading the Packers in this new era. In the 35-25 win, Lovee completed 29 of 37 passes for a total of 360 yards and threw three touchdowns, earning a career-high 134.2 passer rating. During the game, Love went on a streak of 20 consecutive completions, tying a franchise record. The student has become the teacher.

Patrick Mahomes Keeps the Chiefs Rolling

From the beginning of the season until now, the Kansas City Chiefs have looked like a completely different team. Led by Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs took down the Washington Commanders in a 28-7 victory. After throwing two interceptions in the first half, Mahomes refocused to lead his offense on three consecutive scoring drives. He finished the night with  25-of-34 passing for 299 yards and three touchdowns with a 104.9 passer rating. The Chiefs have won five games in a row and have shown no signs of slowing down.

Tua Tagovailoa Returns to Form

Tua Tagovailoa played his best game of the season, leading the Miami Dolphins to a dominant 34-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. In a highly efficient showing, Tagovailoa completed 20 of 26 passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions, resulting in his highest passer rating of the season (138.6). He orchestrated several scoring drives and helped the team break out of a recent offensive slump against a formidable Falcons defense.  After being pulled out of the last game, Tagovailoa has regained his confidence and trust of his teammates.
