Angel Reese Expands Acting Resume with Role in Netflix’s ‘The Hunting Wives’

Reese is set to join Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman in the second season of the Netflix drama ‘The Hunting Wives.'

Angel Reese is set to take on a new role within the Netflix catalog. The Chicago Sky forward has joined the cast of the thriller series 'The Hunting Wives' for its upcoming second season. Reese will appear in a recurring co-starring role as a character nicknamed "Trainer Barbie," a nod to the "Bayou Barbie" and "Chi-Town Barbie" nicknames she has popularized throughout her basketball career.

This project follows her previous work on the streaming platform in the 2025 thriller 'A House of Dynamite.' In her acting debut, Reese appeared alongside Idris Elba, playing herself in a scene where she played basketball with Elba’s character, the President of the United States. While her first appearance was a cameo as herself, her role in 'The Hunting Wives' marks a transition into portraying a scripted character within a fictional narrative.

The series, adapted from the novel by May Cobb, explores the lives of an elite group of women in East Texas and the dark obsessions that lead to a murder investigation. The show’s creator, Rebecca Cutter, reportedly moved to cast Reese after the WNBA star shared her love for the first season on social media. What began as a public exchange about Reese’s interest in the show resulted in a formal role for the new season.

Production for the second season is currently underway in Texas. Reese joins returning lead actors Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman, as well as Dermot Mulroney and Jaime Ray Newman. The cast for the new season has also expanded to include John Stamos, Kim Matula, and Alex FitzAlan. On-set photos have already captured Reese filming, confirming her character’s involvement in the Maple Brook social scene.

The move into scripted drama comes as Reese prepares for her third season in the WNBA. Since being drafted as the number seven overall pick in 2024, Reese has played two record-breaking seasons with the Chicago Sky, leading the league in rebounding and earning back-to-back All-Star selections. Outside of her commitments to the Sky, she has continued to build a presence in the entertainment industry, including a voice role in an upcoming animated film produced by Stephen Curry. As 'The Hunting Wives' prepares for its return, Reese’s participation highlights her growing influence beyond the basketball court.
