Justin Jefferson Becomes 3rd Player Ever to Start Career With 6 Straight 1K Seasons

Joining Randy Moss and Mike Evans, Justin Jefferson becomes the third player in NFL history with six straight 1,000-yard seasons to start a career.

Justin Jefferson cemented his place among the NFL’s all-time greats Sunday, channeling the spirit of a Vikings legend to rewrite the record books.

In the Minnesota Vikings' 16-3 season-finale victory over the Green Bay Packers, Jefferson surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the sixth consecutive season. The milestone places him in a rare class as one of only three players in league history to begin a career with six straight 1,000-yard campaigns, joining Hall of Famer Randy Moss (1998–2003) and Mike Evans (2014–2024).

While the 1,000-yard streak kept him in elite company, Jefferson claimed a record of his own during the contest. By finishing the game with 101 yards, he brought his career total to 8,480 receiving yards, officially passing Randy Moss (8,375) for the most receiving yards by any player in their first six NFL seasons.

The record-breaking moment arrived on a 17-yard reception in the second quarter, drawing a massive ovation from the U.S. Bank Stadium crowd.

"He should never play a season for the Minnesota Vikings and not get to those numbers," Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said following the game. O'Connell praised Jefferson's leadership throughout a 2025 season that saw the receiver navigate significant quarterback turnover and physical challenges.

Entering the finale, Jefferson needed 53 yards to reach the millennium mark. He wasted little time, recording 39 yards on Minnesota’s opening drive alone.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy targeted Jefferson early and often, connecting on an 18-yard play-action pass to start the day. Minnesota further utilized Jefferson's versatility with a pop pass from the shotgun, allowing the receiver to turn the corner for a 10-yard gain.

Despite a mid-game stretch where the offense stalled, Jefferson remained the focal point. His 17-yard gain on a hitch route in the second quarter was the decisive blow that pushed him over the 1,000-yard threshold for the year. He later capped his performance with an 18th-career 100-yard game, his first such outing in 12 weeks.

Jefferson now stands as the third player in Vikings history to record at least six 1,000-yard seasons, trailing only Cris Carter (8) and Moss (6). His production over his first six years remains the gold standard for the position:

  • Career Yards (First 6 Seasons): 8,480 (1st all-time)
  • Consecutive 1,000-Yard Seasons to Start Career: 6 (Tied for 2nd all-time)
  • Franchise Rank: 3rd in career receiving yards (Passing Anthony Carter)

"Definitely relieved, just off of a difficult year, emotionally and physically," Jefferson said after the game. "To come out with the attitude of trying to finish the game and trying to leave a mark and show the world that I'm still the best receiver in the league."
