Xavier Worthy Hosts Community Luncheon During Bye Week, Extends Support To Single Mothers in Kansas City

The second-year Chiefs receiver brings his foundation’s national mission to Kansas City, focusing on outreach to more than 60,000 single-mother households.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy used his team’s bye week to host a luncheon with city leaders and non-profit groups as part of his ongoing community works through The Worthy 1’s Foundation, which is expanding efforts to support single mothers in the Kansas City metro area.

The luncheon, held last weekend during the Chiefs’ break in play, brought together local agencies and community members to discuss partnerships, those in attendance said, with the aim of extending the foundation’s programs into Kansas City. The foundation’s mission is rooted in Worthy’s personal background; he was raised by a single mother, Nicky Jones, in Fresno, California.

According to The Single Mom KC, a Kansas City-based nonprofit partner, the metro area has more than 61,000 single-mother households, raising approximately 115,000 children. The collaboration with Worthy’s organization aims to launch resources such as scholarship grants for mothers returning to school, financial-literacy workshops and youth mentorship opportunities.

Worthy, who is in his second season with the Chiefs after being taken in the first-round of the 2024 draft, issued a statement through his foundation saying his own experience shaped the work.

“I know what it’s like to grow up in a household headed by a single mother,” he said. “My mom made sacrifice after sacrifice – this is about giving back.”

Officials from The Single Mom KC said the luncheon marked the first public event between the Kansas City groups and has additional programming planned for 2026.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas acknowledged the initiative on social media, describing the foundation’s efforts as “an example of how athletes can extend their reach beyond the playing field.”

The Worthy 1s Foundation already operates in Texas and California, offering youth sports camps, community drives, wellness initiatives, and other resources tailored to single-mother families. The Kansas City expansion now places the organization in the Midwest.

For many families and local stakeholders, the event underscored the importance of athletes who leverage their platforms for community investment.
