Russell Westbrook Signs With Sacramento Kings

The former MVP joins Sacramento on a veteran-minimum deal.

Russell Westbrook has signed a one-year $3.6 million veteran's minimum deal with the Sacramento Kings. He is expected to join the team later this week.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Westbrook and the Kings were in constant communication during the offseason. Westbrook will be playing for his seventh team in his 18th season. He will team up with Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Dennis Schroder.

Last season with the Denver Nuggets, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals while shooting 44.9% from the field in 75 games and 36 starts.

In his remarkable career, Westbrook’s game has been defined by unprecedented athleticism and intensity, which has made him a sure-first ballot Hall of Famer. After playing for the UCLA Bruins, he was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics, who then relocated and became the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Teaming with Kevin Durant and James Harden, they led the team to the 2012 NBA Finals, but fell short against the Miami Heat.

During his 2016-2017 MVP season, where he became the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double—a feat he has since repeated a record total of four times. A member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, Westbrook is a nine-time All-NBA selection, a two-time NBA scoring champion, and a three-time assists leader, and is the NBA's all-time leader in career triple-doubles.

Previously, Westbrook has played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, and the Nuggets.
