San Francisco Police Investigating Shooting Involving 49ers Player Keion White After Super Bowl

White is the second 49ers player in 18 months to be a victim of a shooting in San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White is recovering after being shot in  in   San Francisco’s Mission District. The incident, which left the 27-year-old with a gunshot wound to the ankle, occurred just hours after the conclusion of Super Bowl LX.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers arrived at the 1700 block of Mission Street around 4:06 a.m. to find a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. While the department did not initially name the individual, the 49ers confirmed in an official statement that White was the victim. Preliminary reports from the investigation indicate that a verbal argument broke out between two groups inside a local business. Police emphasized that White was not a participant in the altercation; however, he was struck when an unknown suspect opened fire.

White was transported to a local hospital where he underwent successful surgery on Monday afternoon. The team noted that the injuries are not considered life-threatening or career-threatening. On Sunday, White had shared images on social media from Levi’s Stadium, where he watched the Seattle Seahawks defeat his former team, the New England Patriots.

The 49ers acquired White in October 2025 through a trade with the Patriots. In exchange for White and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, San Francisco sent a 2026 sixth-round selection to New England. Since joining the roster, White has appeared in 11 games, including the postseason, tallying 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

This marks the second time in 18 months that a member of the 49ers organization has been a victim of gun violence in the city. In August 2024, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in Union Square. Pearsall was able to return to the field later that season, appearing in 11 games.

As of Tuesday, the San Francisco Police Department’s Strategic Investigation Unit has made no arrests. Authorities are treating the shooting as an active and open investigation.
