Russell Wilson Calls It A Career—And Ciara Has The Perfect Message For Her Man

After a stellar 14-year career on the turf, the veteran quarterback is moving to the broadcast booth with his biggest fan cheering him on.

Russell Wilson is calling it a career. The 37-year-old quarterback announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday, June 3, wrapping up an incredible 14-year run that reshaped how people view shorter quarterbacks in the modern era. Wilson shared a beautiful, emotional video montage on Instagram looking back at his football journey, and it did not take long for his wife, multi-platinum singer Ciara, to show love for her husband's legendary accomplishments.

In a joint post shared across social media, Ciara headed straight to the comments to praise Wilson, calling him the best in the world. She wrote that there is only one number 3, expressing how proud she is and calling him her greatest inspiration after watching him navigate the league for over a decade.

Wilson's retirement video felt like a conversation with an old friend, as he narrated his evolution from a kid waking up before sunrise to train with his father and brother into a Super Bowl champion. He explained that his love for the game quickly turned into an obsession, acting as his safe place while teaching him discipline, faith, and the resilience to block out external noise.

A huge part of that resilience came from his early days with the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him in the third round back in 2012 out of NC State. Wilson made sure to give a special shoutout to his former head coach, Pete Carroll, for having the vision to draft him when draft experts dismissed his potential. Wilson thanked Carroll for taking a chance on a 5-foot-11 Black kid from Richmond, Virginia, who spent his entire life being told he was simply too small to ever make it in the league.

Seattle is where Wilson truly built his foundation, spending 10 seasons there and bringing the franchise its first Super Bowl title in 2013. He showed deep appreciation for the city, noting that Seattle raised him through the massive wins, the deafening stadium crowds, and the unforgettable moments spent visiting kids at Seattle Children’s Hospital. After his iconic run in the Pacific Northwest, Wilson played two seasons with the Denver Broncos, one with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and spent his final season with the New York Giants.

When you look at the stat sheet, Wilson’s career is easily a first-ballot Hall of Fame resume. He threw for 46,966 yards, racking up 353 touchdowns against just 114 interceptions. He sits alongside Peyton Manning and Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to throw at least 20 touchdown passes in each of their first three seasons, and he is a 10-time Pro Bowler. Plus, he stands alone as the only player in NFL history to throw for at least 30 touchdowns with fewer than 15 interceptions in four straight seasons.

Beyond the numbers, Wilson emphasized that family was his ultimate motivation. He thanked his mother and his siblings, Harry and Anna, and gave Ciara, his wife of nearly 10 years, the ultimate praise, calling her his greatest blessing and best friend through the highs and lows of life.

The couple has three children: daughter Sienna Princess, 9; son Win Harrison, 5; and daughter Amora Princess, 2. Ciara also has an 11-year-old son, Future Zahir, from a previous relationship with rapper Future. Wilson closed his retirement message with powerful advice for his kids, telling them never to let others cast fear of greatness on them and to wake up every day believing they can do big things.

While he won't be taking any more snaps on Sundays, Wilson isn't leaving the game behind. He confirmed he is transitioning straight into the media world, joining CBS Sports as an analyst on "The NFL Today" studio show, keeping him right at the center of the sport he loves.
