CC Sabathia Headlines 2025 Hall of Fame Induction
CC Sabathia was regarded as one of the best pitchers of his era and is now forever immortalized in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
On Sunday (July 27), Sabathia was enshrined in the Hall of Fame after receiving 86.8% of the vote in his first year of eligibility. The vote was conducted by the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA).
Beginning his career in Cleveland, he spent the first eight-plus seasons of his career with the squad, solidifying himself as a top pitcher after being a first-round pick of the organization in 1998.
After being traded to Milwaukee in 2008, he led the Brewers to the postseason. Signing with the New York Yankees in 2009, Sabathia pitched for the Bronx Bombers' for 11 seasons of his career and led the Yankees to the 2009 World Series title.
In his induction speech, Sabathia thanked his mother, who shared with him her love of baseball by taking him to games when the Mariners visited the Oakland Coliseum to watch her favorite player, Ken Griffey Jr.
“My mom loved the game, too,’’ Sabathia said. “She’d put the catching gear on and catch me in the backyard. My mom is the reason I’m a baseball fan. And fans turn into players who sometimes turn into Hall of Famers.”
He also thanked his wife Amber, whom he met when he was a junior in high school, for being his true partner.
“I know I’m super difficult to be around sometimes,” Sabathia said. “She knows how to navigate me like no one else does.”
Along with Sabathia, Philadelphia legend Dick Allen and the 1978 National League (NL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winner, Dave Parker, were elected by the Classic Baseball Era Committee posthumously. Ichiro Suzuki and Billy Wagner were elected by the BBWAA.
