ESPN Confirms Split With Shannon Sharpe Following Sexual Assault Settlement
Shannon Sharpe will no longer be appearing on ESPN.
On Wednesday (July 30), the network announced it was cutting ties with Sharpe, less than two weeks after he recently settled a $50 million lawsuit involving his ex-girlfriend, The Athletic reports.
According to the lawsuit, Sharpe’s ex-girlfriend, who’s named “Jane Doe” in the filing, accused him of rape and sexual assault.
In April, Sharpe took a leave of absence from his duties at ESPN in response to the suit. He said that he would return in time for the 2025 NFL season.
Tony Buzbee, the anonymous woman’s attorney, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the settlement.
“On April 20, 2025, the Buzbee Law Firm filed a complaint in Nevada, making several allegations against Shannon Sharpe on behalf of our client. Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship,” the statement continued.
“After protracted and respectful negotiations, I’m pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed-upon resolution. All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed,” Buzbee’s statement continued. “The lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice.”
A dismissal with prejudice means Sharpe’s “accuser cannot refile the same claim against him in the same Las Vegas court.”
No criminal charges were filed against Sharpe.
In the media space, Sharpe hosts his popular podcasts Club Shay Shay and Nightcap with former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, distributed by The Volume in an agreement that ends in August.
