Carmelo Anthony Calls Out NBA Stars For Not Participating In the Slam Dunk Contest

The future Hall of Famer is challenging today's top NBA players to bring back the excitement of the Slam Dunk Contest.

Carmelo Anthony has had enough of NBA stars not participating in the All-Star events, especially the Slam Dunk Contest.

On the latest episode of his 7 PM In Brooklyn podcast, Melo did not mince words, challenging today's top NBA talent to bring back the excitement of the Slam Dunk Contest.

"The All-Stars should be participating in the three-point contest and the dunk contest. Even the skills challenge, you should have to be an all-star to be able to participate in those events, and if we don't get back to that, we might have just canceled the dunk contest,” Anthony argued.

“We shouldn't be bringing people who are not part of All-Star weekend to play in slam dunk contests and shooting threes. Shoutout to Mac [McClung], he’s holding it down, but he's not supposed to be holding it down for us,” he continued.

As one of NBC's new NBA analysts, the 10-time All-Star hopes that the upcoming stars of the league can bring back the luster to an event that many believe has been mediocre for numerous years.

“For me, now that I'm on NBC and we have the All-Star weekend, it's like I want to see the Ja [Morant], I want to see Ant[hony] Edwards…I want to see VJ Edgecombe in Philly in the dunk contest more than I want to see Cooper [Flagg] in the dunk contest…the vets ain't doing that sh*t,” Anthony said.

“But that's why I'm saying we got to get Ant and Ja and Zion [Williamson], those guys, to be a part of the dunk contest and All-Star Saturday night in order to just jumpstart this thing,” he added.

NBC is set to broadcast an NBA doubleheader as part of its return to NBA coverage. The doubleheader will be part of a weekly Tuesday night showcase of NBA games.
