NBA Launches Investigation into Malik Beasley Gambling Allegations
The NBA has launched a probe into the gambling allegations levied against Malik Beasley, commissioner Adam Silver said Wednesday (September 10). Sources close to the investigation said that the probe is close to ending.
According to ESPN, the investigation stems from “allegations of improper gambling on NBA games and prop bets from the 2023-24 season” when Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.
One U.S. sportsbook noted that there was unusually heavy betting that was discovered on Beasley's statistics back in January 2024
"I'll only say there that the investigation is ongoing," Silver said. "As I understand it, there's still a federal investigation that's ongoing of Malik Beasley as well. We will address whatever is presented to us in his case."
Steve Haney told ESPN that Beasley is "fully cooperating" with the NBA investigation.
In June, Beasley was the subject of a federal investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.
Back in August, Haney told ESPN that Beasley was not a target and “had not been charged in the federal investigation.” The investigation resulted in four guilty pleas related to a gambling scheme involving former NBA player Jontay Porter, who was banned for life from the league.
Before news broke of the impending investigation, Beasley was in negotiations with the Pistons to sign a lucrative contract extension on a three-year, $42 million contract to return to Detroit.
Since the summer, other teams have expressed interest in signing Beasley.
Beasley said that he would be making his decision soon in a recent Instagram post.
