Jalen Brunson Claps Back At Stephen A. Smith’s Apology
Fresh off bringing an NBA championship back to New York, Jalen Brunson isn't letting his former critics off the hook that easily, even the ones who are ready to admit they were wrong.
The star point guard hopped on ESPN’s "First Take" on Monday, where longtime New York Knicks fan and media personality Stephen A. Smith gave a public apology for ever doubting if Brunson had what it takes to carry a team to a title.
Smith, who spent plenty of time wondering out loud if a smaller guard could really be the number one option on a championship team, addressed Brunson directly during the show.
"I owe this man an apology," Smith said. "I am grateful for what you've done for this city… you won't be hearing any doubts from me anymore my brother."
Brunson didn't hit him back with a long, emotional speech. Instead, the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player just smirked and kept it short.
"We'll see about that," Brunson said.
The funny exchange happened just days after Brunson wrapped up his eighth year in the league and his fourth season in New York by lifting the Larry O'Brien Trophy. He led the Knicks past the San Antonio Spurs in five games, locking down the franchise's first NBA championship since 1973.
Brunson pretty much silenced any remaining doubters in the decisive Game 5, putting up a massive 45 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a tight 94-90 win.
In his first two seasons, he got the Knicks to the second round of the playoffs. In 2025, he carried them to their first Eastern Conference Finals since 2000, setting up this season's historic run.
