LeBron's Late-Night Instagram Activity Triggers Free Agency Rumors

While the current Cavs squad struggles in the postseason, a familiar face from Akron might be plotting the ultimate rescue mission.

LeBron James is keeping everyone guessing about his next move, and all it took was one click on social media to get the rumor mill spinning.

James sent fans into a frenzy on Wednesday, May 20, when he liked an Instagram Stories post from a Cleveland Cavaliers fan account. The post featured a photo of James from his Cleveland days with a simple caption: “Come home.”

Of course, the internet immediately started wondering if the 41-year-old superstar is actually thinking about returning to Ohio. The timing is definitely interesting. James and the Los Angeles Lakers just wrapped up a tough postseason run, getting swept 4-0 by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. After that loss, James made it clear that his main priority is being on a roster that can truly compete for championships.

But making a third stint in Cleveland happen wouldn't be easy. The Cavaliers would have to do some major financial maneuvering to fit him under the salary cap. Plus, James has mentioned before that he isn't exactly looking to take a pay cut as he enters his 24th NBA season.

Meanwhile, the current Cavs team could use a boost. Cleveland is currently down 0-2 to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals after blowing a huge 22-point lead in Game 1. The series shifts back to Ohio for Game 3 on Saturday, May 23, as the team tries to dig itself out of a hole.

James, who grew up right down the road in Akron, played for the Cavaliers from 2003 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2018, famously bringing the city a championship in 2016. Finishing his career where it all started sounds like a movie script, but James has insisted he's taking his time with this free-agent decision and prioritizing winning above all else.
