Vick vs. Jackson: Former Eagles Teammates Square Off in Historic HBCU 'Battle of the Legends

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash between the Norfolk State Spartans and the Delaware State will be the first time that former Philadelphia Eagles legends Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson meet as collegiate head coaches.

For five seasons, Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson were a dynamic duo for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, the former teammates are set to return to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to compete in regular-season contests with their respective HBCU football programs: Norfolk State and Delaware State University. The highly anticipated game is taking place on set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 30.

The concept of having the game played at Lincoln Financial Field was first floated by Jackson, who relayed the idea to Vick over the summer when they both were hired, and the rest is history.

"I came to Delaware State University to start a new phase of my career with a unique institution that cares about its students and is helping to transform their futures," Jackson said in a statement at the time. "I know Coach Vick feels the same way at Norfolk State. A part of that transformation is opening our students and scholar-athletes up to a whole new set of experiences at the highest level. For our teams to be playing in Philly, at the Linc, on the field Coach Vick and I called home for many years will be special for our players, our coaching staffs, our alumni and fans, and for HBCU culture around the country."

In the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), it’s not only one of the marquee matchups of the conference but also on the HBCU sports calendar. Unlike any other game of the season, the high-profile game transcends conference play, drawing immense fan interest and spotlighting the rich tradition of HBCU athletics on a major professional stage.

In the matchup, the Hornets (5-3, 1-0 MEAC) lead the MEAC with the top rushing attack, taking on the struggling Norfolk State Spartans (1-7, 0-1 MEAC), who are looking to snap their current losing streak. The Hornets have a top-tier offense and a dominant red-zone defense, along with momentum. For the Spartans, they will depend on quarterback Otto Kuhns, who needs to have a strong showing. On the defensive side, the Spartans have their fair share of struggles and are recording a high number of penalties. For Norfolk State, this would be a major upset on a national stage. To get the win, they have to defeat the Hornet,s who are firing on all cylinders.
